Barakallah Meaning in Hindi, Urdu & English (+ Reply)

Barakallah means "May Allah bless." Said to a person, Barakallahu feek (or barakallahu laka) means "May Allah bless you." In Urdu: Allah aap ko barkat de. In Hindi: अल्लाह आप को बरकत दे.

You hear it at weddings, on good news, when someone helps you, or when someone shows you their new baby, house or exam result. It is a short dua, and the word at its heart, baraka, is one the Quran uses for the Kaaba (3:96), for rain (50:9), for the Quran itself (38:29) and for the Prophet Isa (19:31).

بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ

May Allah bless you.

Allah aap ko barkat de.

Said by the Prophet ﷺ to Abdur Rahman ibn Awf on his marriage · Sahih al-Bukhari 5155

How to say it: Bārakallāhu laka (to a man), laki (to a woman), lakum (to a group). The more common everyday form is Barakallahu feek (fīka, to a man), feeki (to a woman), feekum (to a group). Common spellings: Barakallah, Barak Allah, Barakallahu feek, Barakallahu fik, Barakallahu feekum.

Barakallah in Urdu and Hindi

اللہ آپ کو برکت دے

अल्लाह आप को बरकत दे

Barakallahu feek ka tarjuma · Urdu and Hindi

In Hindi script: बारकल्लाहु फ़ीक (बारकल्लाह). Urdu already uses the word: barkat (برکت) is the same Arabic baraka.

Word by word

Arabic Say it Meaning In the book
بَارَكَ bāraka (may He) bless root b-r-k (see below)
اللَّهُ Allāhu Allah #2 · 2,699×
لَكَ laka for you li (for) + ka (you)

In barakallahu feek, the last word is fī (in, word #4 in our book, 1,701 times in the Quran) + ka (you): "may Allah put blessing in you". Bāraka is in the past tense, but in a dua like this it is understood as a wish: may Allah bless.

What is baraka? Blessing, increase and goodness that come from Allah and stay. A small amount of food that is enough for many, time in which much good gets done, a child who brings joy: Urdu speakers call all of this barkat.

Barakallah in the hadith

At a wedding. Anas narrated that the Prophet ﷺ saw traces of perfume on Abdur Rahman ibn Awf and asked about it. He said he had married. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Bārakallāhu laka, give a wedding meal, even with one sheep" (Sahih al-Bukhari 5155).

The marriage dua. When the Prophet ﷺ congratulated someone on his marriage, he said:

بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ

May Allah bless for you, and may He bless on you, and combine both of you in good (works).

Allah tumhaare liye barkat de, aur tum par barkat naazil kare, aur tum dono ko bhalaai mein jama rakhe.

Abu Dawud 2130 (graded sahih by al-Albani; English from sunnah.com)

This is the best thing to say, or write in a card, to a newly married couple. Jamaʿa (he gathered, #560), bayn (between, #31) and khayr (good, #182) are all words from our 600-word list.

Baraka in the Quran

The root b-r-k comes again and again in the Quran. A few examples:

Allah Himself is "full of blessing" (tabāraka):

تَبَٰرَكَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Blessed is He in Whose hand is the Sovereignty, and, He is Able to do all things.

Bahut ba-barkat hai woh (Allah) jis ke haath mein baadshaahi hai aur jo har cheez par qudrat rakhne wala hai

Surah Al-Mulk · 67:1

The angels' greeting to the family of Ibrahim:

رَحْمَتُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَٰتُهُۥ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ ٱلْبَيْتِ

The mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, O people of the house!

Tum par, aey is ghar ke logo, Allah ki rehmat aur us ki barkatein naazil hon

Surah Hud · 11:73 (part)

The full salam ends with the same words: wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh. See Assalamu alaikum meaning.

The Quran is a blessed book:

كِتَٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَٰرَكٌ

(This is) a Scripture that We have revealed unto thee, full of blessing…

Yeh ba-barkat kitaab hai jise hum ne aap ki taraf naazil farmaaya hai…

Surah Sad · 38:29 (part)

And Isa (peace be upon him), speaking as a baby: "And hath made me blessed wheresoever I may be" (19:31). Mubārak, the word in Eid Mubarak and Ramadan Mubarak, means exactly this: blessed.

They often go together: "MashaAllah, barakallah!" for good news, or "JazakAllah khair, barakallahu feek" to someone who helped you. More in MashaAllah meaning, JazakAllah khair meaning and InshaAllah meaning.

The hadith gives one more reason to say it: when you see something you like in someone, "let him pray for blessing for him" (Ibn Majah 3509). See nazar ki dua.
